Transition Makers Toolbox featured in international IDG Casebook

The Transition Makers Toolbox is featured in the newly published Casebook of IDG Implementation into Higher Education. This open-access publication brings together 12 peer-reviewed cases from around the world, highlighting how the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) are being integrated into higher education in different institutional and cultural contexts.

The chapter, “Transition Makers Toolbox: Implementing the Inner Development Goals in Higher Education”, was written by Ilja Boor, Belle Jansen, Guido Knibbe and Sabine Uijl. It describes the development of the Transition Makers Toolbox through a national co-creation process involving educators from Dutch universities of applied sciences and research universities. The chapter explores how the IDGs were translated into practical educational tools that support educators in designing learning experiences for inner development.

The publication is based on research and project data collected in 2024. Since then, the Transition Makers Toolbox has continued to evolve. The collection of tools has expanded from 24 to 53, the community of educators and makers has grown, and the Toolbox has recently been updated to align with the Inner Development Guide 2.0. As a result, the chapter captures an important phase in the Toolbox’s development while also illustrating the foundation for its continued growth.

We are proud that the Transition Makers Toolbox is included alongside inspiring international examples of IDG implementation in higher education. The Casebook of IDG Implementation into Higher Education demonstrates the value of collaboration across institutions and countries in strengthening education for sustainable and societal transitions.

We hope the chapter inspires educators to explore how inner development can be integrated in higher education through meaningful learning activities and how co-creation of educational tools can support that process.
