At WUR, I train and coach teachers in their university teacher qualification (UTQ) trajectory. In our UTQ course ‘University Teaching’, teachers reflect on their teaching and try different ways of teaching in experimentation sessions. When I was a teacher myself at the University of Applied Science in Amsterdam, I was always trying out new and different ways of teaching, for students to really engage with what I was teaching. As a teacher trainer, I am supporting teachers to accommodate the learning of their students as much as possible. It takes courage to step out of your comfort zone and take action. Especially if the existing structures in place are different from what you value yourself. I strongly believe that in whatever you do, it is important to find out what is important to you and act on it, to keep your energy!
