We are popping virtual champagne: last month, we’ve crossed the remarkable milestone of 50,000 page views for transitionmakers.nl, and we’re almost at 60,000 now. Woah!

Interdisciplinary Learning & Teaching Conference

on 21 March 2024 from 9 AM to 5 PM at the University of Manchester

The conference will cover a range of topics, including how to design teaching and assessment experiences that support and showcase interdisciplinary learning, and how to evidence and articulate the impact of those experiences on students, staff and our broader communities.

Alongside traditional talks, the conference will showcase lightning (5-minute) talks and interactive problem-focused workshops, including our workshop on the possibilities of using the IDG framework in higher education.

Interested in
co-creating?

Are you an educational professional at a Dutch higher education institution, and would you like to add a new tool to the Toolbox?

If you have a teaching or learning activity paired with an assessment method, related to societal transitions and one of the IDGs, that you would like to add to the Transition Makers Toolbox, this session is for you!

It could be a tool that is new to you that you want to start using in your education practice, or a tool that you are already working with and would like to share in and/or further develop for the Transition Makers Toolbox.

The first co-creation session will take place on 13 May from 9 am to 1 pm.
The follow-up session is on 13 June from 1 to 5 pm. Both sessions will be held on-site in Amsterdam.

Please note, it is important to know the source of the tool and to have permission to share the tool in the Toolbox.

This guarantees a key characteristic of our Toolbox: the material we will share in the Toolbox is open source.

This means that the tools we end up sharing will be accessible for anyone to use, redistribute, and modify at no cost.

Freeke Jansen

“Hi! My name is Freeke. I am passionate about innovative education and driven to prepare students for the complex challenges of the future.

With my work as an education support officer for the EWUU alliance and as one of the co-creators of the new tools for the Transition Makers Toolbox, I hope to encourage innovation in education by introducing students to challenge-based learning, transdisciplinary collaborations
and the Inner Development Goals.”

Rianne van Lambalgen

”In my research as an Assistant Professor at the department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, I combine my expertise in psychology, artificial intelligence, and educational science by investigating how digital teaching methods can support students’ learning interdisciplinary research. In addition, I teach in the interdisciplinary core curriculum of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the humanities university teaching qualification at Utrecht University.

Experiencing Interdisciplinarity invites students to step into an interdisciplinary perspective and exchange with peers. By making a mind-map from different disciplinary perspectives on a real-life example, they discover the power of connecting disciplines.”
